We spent Saturday morning at Aunt Launa's house celebrating Grandma Dot's 85th birthday. It was the perfect summer day. We had a delicious pancake breakfast outside, provided to us Herriman style. (Those of you who have been to the annual chuck wagon breakfast know what I am talking about.) It was nice to get together with all (most, I should say. Not everyone could make it.) of the cousins and catch up. Mom had a game for all the little ones to play. I am not exactly sure what the object of the game was, however, it involved little kids dressing up in ridiculous clothes and then running to touch a pole, and starting over again. That was pretty entertaining to watch.
When the dress up game was over, all of the great-grand kids got to go down and ride the horses. That was the highlight of Zoe and Connor's day. Emma and Sophie felt a little more comfortable riding on the ATV.
Grandma seemed to enjoy herself. She got her usually birthday gifts; peaches,a case of pork and beans, and a six pack of coke. You know, the essentials for an 85 year old woman.
Grandma was the first one to leave. Aunt Kathy took her home. She was ready for a breathing treatment and had left her medicine at home. You know, it amazes me that she is 85. I have never seen her with grey hair. She always has her nails painted. Her clothes are always impeccably ironed. She still worries about her weight. I wonder what I will be like at 85?
