I can't believe our summer is already over and it is time to get back into the familiar school routine. It seems we were just celebrating the last day of school, looking forward to a summer of possibilities. And it is already over. That is another definite down side to year-round school. Zoe and Sophie were only out for 7 weeks.
We did get to do some fun things this summer. Zoe and I went to St. George with Girl Scouts for a "Girl's Weekend" and got to see Sound of Music at Tuachan. Then there was that oh so fun Girl Scout camping trip. We did go on a really fun trip to San Diego. Zoe go to go on a couple of boating trips with her friends and we all made some trips to Evie's pool. I guess I can't complain, I just wish we had a more traditional summer. I know that when I was in Elementary, we didn't go back to school until after Labor Day. Why can't we go back to that?
Monday was Zoe's first day back to school. She is such a trooper. She said she was a little nervous but more excited than anything. This is the first time she has had a man teacher. Mr. Duncan. I think that is why she was a little nervous. Everyone kept telling her how mean he was, and that he mumbles a lot.
She came home from school saying she had a great day, and that Mr. Duncan was really nice. The only thing that seemed to bother her was the fact that he told the class he had to drink a cup of coffee every morning so that he wouldn't be grouchy. I think she is worried about his Eternal Salvation.
Sophie started 1st grade on Tuesday. She got to go meet her teacher, Mrs. Keetch on Monday at an open house. She was a great student in kindergarten and loved every second of it. She never wanted to miss a day. This year she seems a little more apprehensive. She is very worried about being at school all day. She keeps telling me to make sure that I don't go anywhere all day in case she needs me. I walked her to school on Tuesday morning. She has a lot of her little friends in her class from last year, I thought that would make her feel better, but it didn't. When her teacher came out to get the class she walked in with a brave little smile, but sad little eyes. It broke my heart. I wanted to tell her that I would go sit with her all day, but I knew I couldn't do that.
When she got home on Tuesday she said she had a good day, but she wasn't going back.
I guess it will take her a little while to adjust. Only 10 months until next summer!
